Paying with foreign bank cards

ALAnton LebedevUpdated 14 May 20266 min read11 480 read

A card issued abroad is not a dead end for your booking. Sales.Travel accepts both Russian cards and cards issued by foreign banks — the key is choosing the right method and knowing which currency you'll be charged in.

In short

We accept Mir cards, as well as Visa and Mastercard from Russian banks. Foreign-bank cards and UnionPay also work — the charge is taken in the transaction currency. If a card is declined, there are alternatives: SBP, crypto payment and invoicing.

01 / What we acceptWhich cards you can pay with

The Sales.Travel checkout supports several card types: Russian cards are used for payments in rubles, while foreign-bank cards cover payments in foreign currency. Here is a summary of what's supported.

Card typeIssued inCharge currency

UnionPayRussian & foreign banksDepends on the card
A card from a foreign bankCards issued outside Russia are accepted — the payment is taken in the transaction currency. Your issuing bank converts the amount into your account currency at its own rate on the day of the charge.

02 / Currency & feesWhich currency and what fees apply

When you pay with a foreign-bank card, the money is charged in the transaction currency, and your bank converts it into your account currency at its own rate. A cross-border or conversion fee may apply — its size depends on your card plan, so it's best to confirm the exact amount with your issuing bank.

  • The conversion rate is set by your bank, not by Sales.Travel.
  • A cross-border fee may be added under the rules of the payment system and your card plan.
  • Confirm exact rates and limits with your issuing bank — they differ from bank to bank.

03 / How to payPaying by card step by step

1

Go to checkout

In My bookings, open the order and tap “Pay”.

2

Choose card payment

Pick “Bank card” — Mir, Visa/Mastercard and UnionPay are all supported.

3

Enter card details

Fill in the number, expiry date and CVV. For foreign-bank cards the amount is shown in the transaction currency.

4

Confirm with 3-D Secure

Approve the payment with the SMS code or in your bank app. Once it goes through, the booking status updates automatically.

A tip before you payIf your card was issued abroad, check in advance that online and international payments are enabled at your bank and that your limit covers the amount after conversion.

04 / If it's declinedWhat to do when a card is declined

A decline usually comes from the issuing bank: a limit reached, a block on online or international transactions, or anti-fraud. First check the reason with your bank, and if card payment still won't go through, use an alternative.

MethodWhen it fits
SBP (Faster Payments)You have a Russian bank account — pay by QR code, no card details needed.
CryptocurrencyConvenient for paying from abroad when a card won't go through.
InvoicePay by bank details — for example, by bank transfer or from a company account.
Don't retry blindlySeveral attempts in a row may cause your bank to temporarily block the card. If money left your account but the booking isn't marked as paid, don't pay again — message us or call 8 800 1000-646.

05 / SupportIf you need help with payment

The Sales.Travel team can help you choose a payment method and sort out a decline. Message the bot @sales_travel_bot, call 8 800 1000-646, or open your account — your order status and the available payment methods are always there.

06 / FAQFrequently asked questions

Can I pay with a card from a foreign bank?

Do you accept UnionPay?

Yes, UnionPay is supported. As with any card, check your limits and that online transactions are enabled with your bank beforehand.

My card is declined — what should I do?

First check the reason with your issuing bank (a limit, a block on international transactions, anti-fraud). If that doesn't help, pay via SBP, crypto or invoice, or contact us.
