The key to cancelling a hotel is beating the deadline. Almost every booking has a rate type and an exact date up to which cancellation is free. Knowing both lets you get a full refund — or at least understand any charge in advance.
Open My bookings, find the hotel and check the rate type. Refundable — free cancellation until the listed date, with a full refund. Non-refundable — cheaper upfront, but the money is not returned. After the deadline, a charge for the first night or the whole stay may apply.
01 / Rate typesTwo rate types: refundable and non-refundable
When you book, the hotel offers one of two rates. Refundable allows free cancellation until the date stated in the conditions — cancel in time and you get a full refund. Non-refundable is usually cheaper, but the money is not returned on cancellation or no-show. The rate you chose is shown at checkout and afterwards inside the booking itself.
02 / DeadlineThe free-cancellation date is your key reference
A refundable rate lists an exact date (sometimes a time) up to which cancelling is free. Before that moment — a full refund. After it — a charge may apply: most often the cost of the first night, and with some hotels the entire booking. The exact condition is spelled out in the booking, so go by that.
03 / How to cancelCancel in your account in a minute
Open your bookings
Go to your account and open My bookings.
Select the hotel
Find the booking and open its card. Check the rate type and the free-cancellation date.
Press “Cancel”
Before you confirm, the system shows the refund amount or the charge — so you see the outcome in advance.
Confirm and keep the email
After confirming, you’ll get a cancellation email. Track the refund status in the same booking.
04 / The refundHow much comes back, and when
- Refundable, before the deadline — the full amount comes back, including taxes and fees taken at payment.
- Refundable, after the deadline — a penalty is withheld (first night or whole stay, per the hotel’s terms); the rest is refunded.
- Non-refundable — the money is not returned, though some taxes and fees may still be refundable — check the booking.
- Crediting time depends on your bank and usually takes a few business days.
05 / FAQCommon questions about cancelling
Can I cancel a non-refundable rate and get my money back?
As a rule, no — the full amount is withheld. In exceptional cases (illness, force majeure), contact support: the hotel sometimes makes an exception, but a refund can’t be guaranteed.
What happens if I simply don’t show up?
A no-show is usually treated like a cancellation after the deadline: a penalty or the full price is withheld. It’s better to cancel in advance in My bookings, even when no refund is due.
How do I change the dates instead of cancelling?
Many hotels don’t allow a direct date change — it’s handled as a cancellation plus a new booking. If the rate is refundable and the deadline hasn’t passed, you lose nothing. In doubt, call 8 800 1000-646.
Where can I see the refund status?
In the same booking card under My bookings, the refund status and expected amount appear once you’ve cancelled.
