Dubai for those
who've done it: 7 hidden gems

Over the past five years, just about everyone has seen Dubai. Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, the Gold Souk — all done. If you're heading back, or want to see the real Dubai instead of the tourist showcase, this one's for you.

Aljada Heart of Sharjah —
a cultural quarter

Technically it's not Dubai at all — it's Sharjah. But a 25-minute taxi ride puts you in a completely different world: art galleries, Middle Eastern restaurants without the tourist markup, and a sprawling modern-architecture district by Zaha Hadid Architects. Entry is free, and the crowd is mostly local.

Private beach clubs
behind The Palm

01
Five Palm Beach Club
A closed club, residents-only by invitation. A quiet beach, no tourists, an infinity pool.
02
Cove Beach (César)
The best sunset view in Dubai. Entry is 200–250 AED, credited toward your bill. A restaurant on par with Monaco.
03
La Mer North
A hipster beach with graffiti, indie restaurants, and small waves. The flip side of tourism.

Talea restaurant —
hard to get into

An Italian restaurant inside the Four Seasons DIFC. An Italian chef, ingredients flown in from Naples, a menu that shifts with the seasons. Reservations open 30 days out and sell through in hours. Book the moment your date opens up — via OpenTable or the hotel concierge.

  • Best table. The corner spot by the window — a view of the Dubai Financial Centre. Ask for it when booking.
  • Average check. 900–1,400 AED for two with wine. Reasonable by Dubai standards.
  • Alternative. Couldn't get in? LPM Restaurant & Bar in DIFC is a similar level and slightly easier to book.
