Do You Need a Chef
On Board
On yachts 40m and up, a chef is part of the standard crew. On 30–35m yachts, it's not a given. A private chef in the Persian Gulf runs $500–900 a day on top of the charter fee. If your group is larger than eight and you're planning dinners on board, it's worth it.
- ✓Provisioning. Usually covered by the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) — 20–25% of the charter cost. Food eats up about a third of that.
- ✓Fuel. Also covered by the APA. A 50m motor yacht burns 300–500 liters an hour. Plan your route in advance.
- ✓Drinks. Alcohol on board is only legal under the yacht's flag. Check with your broker.
