300 meters up

Anacapri, 300 meters above sea level. 55 rooms and villas, two infinity pools looking straight down over the Bay of Naples. Dinner at the panoramic restaurant puts Vesuvius right in front of you, sunset to the right, Ischia to the left. The transfer to the ferry terminal comes courtesy of the hotel's own vintage Fiat 500.

  May. The best month. Lemon trees in bloom, temperatures around 22–25°C, hotels not yet full. Quiet in the evenings.

  June. Still good, but already busy. Book at least 3 months ahead.

  July–August. Peak season. Yachts, queues, 35°C+. If this is your only window, head to Ravello or Anacapri — there's always a breeze up there.

  September. The second-best month. Warm sea (26°C), fewer crowds, prices down 15–20%.

Logistics:
getting there

Fly into Naples (NAP). From there you have three ways to reach Amalfi: ferry (fast and scenic, but doesn't run in rough seas), a car transfer (1.5–2 hrs along the coastal switchbacks), or a helicopter (12 minutes, roughly €800–1,200 one way).
