Tokyo 2026:
the complete guide for your first visit

Tokyo is the most challenging and, at the same time, the most rewarding city for a first visit. Everything here works flawlessly — the subway, the restaurants, the hotels. But without a navigation cheat sheet, it's easy to get lost — literally and figuratively.

When to fly
and how to get there

The best months are March–May (cherry blossoms, 59–68°F) and October–November (autumn foliage, 63–72°F). Summer is hot and humid (up to 95°F), while winter is quiet and cool. Direct flights from Moscow to Tokyo run on Aeroflot, ANA, and Japan Airlines. Flight time is 9–10 hours, from $600 round trip.

Visa: visa-free entry for Russian citizens has resumed since 2025 — for stays of up to 90 days. You'll need a valid passport, a return ticket, and proof of accommodation.

Tokyo's neighborhoods:
where to stay

01
Shinjuku
The heart of it all. Shopping, restaurants, nightlife, and the magnificent Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (free observation deck).
02
Asakusa
A historic district home to Senso-ji Temple and traditional shops. The best area for a first taste of Tokyo.
03
Shibuya / Harajuku
Youth culture, shopping, and the famous scramble crossing. Meiji Shrine offers a quiet garden right in the middle of the metropolis.
04
Ginza
Upscale shopping, galleries, and Michelin-starred restaurants. The Tsukiji market just across the street serves the best breakfast in Tokyo.

5-day itinerary
