The liveliest spot. Nightlife, shopping, a young crowd. Solid surf breaks. For travelers who want the action.

Karon
Quieter than Patong. A wide white-sand beach with solid infrastructure. A good family choice.

Great for beginner surfers. A small, cozy bay with a low-key crowd. One of the prettiest beaches on the island.

Nai Harn
The southernmost of the four. A local feel, few tourists, clear water. A Buddhist monastery sits nearby.
A week's budget
and the biggest mistakes
- ✓Airport taxis. Always use the official AOT Airport Taxi counter — yes, there's a line. Tuk-tuk drivers will offer a "cheaper" ride, then drop you at their brother's hotel instead.
- ✓Riding a motorbike without a license. Fines, accidents, exhaust-pipe burns — it happens every single day. Only ride if you're licensed, or just hire a driver.
- ✓Getting inked at a sketchy tattoo parlor. Phuket has a reputation for poor sterilization practices. Go to a vetted artist, or skip it entirely.
