Emirates runs two different baggage systems: on most routes it’s a weight concept (you get a limit in kilograms), and on flights to and from the Americas it’s a piece concept (a fixed number of bags). Which one applies is always printed on your ticket.
Economy carry-on is 7 kg, up to 55×38×20 cm, plus a separate personal item (a handbag or laptop). Checked baggage by weight: Special ~20—25 kg, Saver ~25—30 kg, Flex ~35 kg, Business — 40 kg. On flights to the Americas — 2 pieces of 23 kg. Excess is charged, and buying baggage in advance is always cheaper than at the desk.
01 / Carry-onWhat you can take into the cabin
In Economy — one carry-on of up to 7 kg and no larger than 55×38×20 cm. In Business and First two pieces totalling up to 14 kg are allowed. On top of that every passenger may bring a personal item.
- Personal item — a handbag, a slim briefcase or a laptop bag; it isn’t weighed separately but must fit under the seat in front.
- Duty-free — sealed airport-shop purchases usually go on top of the allowance, but on connections through a hub the rules can be stricter.
- Liquids in carry-on — containers up to 100 ml in one transparent zip bag of up to 1 litre.
- Power banks and spare batteries — carry-on only, never in checked baggage.
02 / Checked baggageHow much baggage per fare
On the weight concept the total weight matters, not the number of suitcases: you can bring one heavy bag or two light ones as long as you stay within the limit. The exact figure depends on the fare and the route, so use the ranges below and the number on your ticket.
03 / ExcessExcess baggage charges
Excess is charged per kilogram and depends on the route — it is noticeably more expensive than a pre-purchased allowance. The cheapest option is to buy extra weight online before departure.
- 01In advance online — extra weight in the booking is usually 20—30% cheaper than at the airport.
- 02Skywards status — Silver, Gold and Platinum add +12 / +16 / +20 kg over the fare allowance.
- 03At the desk — paid at the full per-kilogram rate; the most expensive way.
04 / Special baggageSports gear, instruments, oversized
Sports equipment and musical instruments can be carried, but their weight counts toward your allowance, and large items need advance approval. Declare special baggage at least 48 hours before departure.
- Skis, snowboard, golf — one set as a single piece; weight counts toward the allowance.
- Bicycle — in a hard case or box, with tyres partly deflated.
- Musical instrument — a small one goes into the cabin as carry-on; a large one (a cello) travels on a separately purchased seat.
- Fragile and oversized — labelled fragile, but responsibility for packing stays with the passenger.
05 / Add baggageHow to add weight to a booking
Open the booking in your account
Log in → “My trips” → select the Emirates flight. In the “Services” block you’ll see “Extra baggage”.
Choose the extra weight
Packages usually come in +5, +10, +15 and +20 kg blocks. The price is shown right away in roubles for your route.
Pay and get confirmation
After payment the new allowance is tied to the ticket and an updated itinerary receipt is emailed to you. Show it at the bag-drop desk.
06 / FAQFrequently asked
Can I pool baggage with a travel companion?
Yes, on the weight concept passengers in the same booking can pool their allowance — total weight is what matters, even if one suitcase is heavier. On the piece concept pooling doesn’t apply.
How much baggage does an infant get?
An infant without a separate seat usually gets ~10 kg of checked baggage plus a free foldable stroller or car seat. The exact allowance is on the ticket.
What if my fare is to the Americas via Dubai?
For the whole route that starts or ends in the Americas the piece concept applies (2 pieces of 23 kg in Economy), including the segment through Dubai.
Does a laptop bag count as a separate carry-on?
No, it’s a personal item — it goes on top of the main carry-on and must fit under the seat. A full-size backpack already counts as the main piece.
